Jackie's Story

As part of her Social Work Placement way back in 2002, Jackie assisted at one of Horizons Drop In Clubs. The placement came to an end but Jackie so enjoyed the experience that she has continued as a volunteer ever since (and in truth, the Club members wouldn’t let her leave!).

The Drop-in Club is a  social group led by the people we support that meets on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm. The group go to the cinema, play bingo, meet for coffee and chat, go bowling, and have meals out.  Every Christmas they go on the now legendary Christmas Trip/City Break. (They’ve been to London, Manchester, Dublin, Liverpool, Birmingham, Belfast and Edinburgh).

Over the past eighteen years, Jackie has proven herself to be 100% committed to the values of Horizons  and is thoroughly dependable. Nothing is too much to ask (even when she has to survive on five hours sleep during our Christmas Trips!) and whatever she does is done with good nature.

From the moment Jackie stepped foot in the Club it just worked – Jackie totally understood what the Drop-in Club is all about – the Club members immediately welcomed her as part of the gang. No one  can imagine a Drop-in Club now without Jackie.
