Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy focuses on facilitating individuals to carry out the activities that are meaningful to them in the key areas of: self-care, productivity and leisure.

Occupational therapists work with people across the life span. Their work is unique in analysing the occupations individuals want or need to do and the environments in which they do them, modifying these where needed to better support the individual’s participation in chosen tasks.

Supports are often targeted at daily living activities which include: personal independence, education, housing, recreation and employment.

Occupational Therapy aims to facilitate inclusion and community integration as well as promoting independence, choice and opportunities for individuals to live a life of their choosing.

  • Occupational Therapists help you do the everyday things that you want and need to do in your life.
  • This could be something you have to do for yourself like getting dressed, going shopping, or making something to eat.
  • It could be things you need to do at work or in school, or to have fun like playing a sport or playing with your toys.
  • Maybe you need special equipment like a wheelchair to get around. We can help you with this.
  • We can help you become involved in your community by signposting and referring you to local community support services that enable social participation.
  • We can support your participation in your daily activities and environments as you become older and experience changing life needs such as conditions like dementia.
  • We find out what you would like to do and what your needs are and then work with you to help you become more independent.
