Homes

At Horizons we provide a range of home options to the people we support. These are known as Independent Living and Residential Services.

Every person is different and the type of service they receive is tailored to their needs and how they may choose to live.

As a society the supports we now provide for people with disabilities are driven by the values of equality, the right of the individual to be part of their community, to plan for their own lives and make their own choices and to get personal supports they need for their independence.

Independent Living

Independent Living is support for people who wish to live in their own home. Living independently offers choice while also giving people the support they need.

At Horizons we have a number of houses where people can live independently and we are planning to purchase more. We also offer support to people living independently in houses outside of Horizons.

Residential

We also offer a range of residential services.

Types of residential services are matched as best possible to what each individual person wants. Residential services range from high dependency accommodation with nursing care to housing supported by staff on call.

We have many residential and community based houses across Cork city and county. We try to offer locations close to a person’s family and friends.

Decongregation

In 2011 the HSE published a report “Time to Move on From Congregated settings”. A Strategy for Community Inclusion <link>. This report recommended to end the practise of people living in congregated settings of 10 or more people.

The decongregation process has already begun in Horizons, you can read more about decongregation and one of our newest houses Bealtaine here.
